I keep it in my wallet to always remind me that no matter what the situation in my life is, someone needs me to reach out and bless them like God has blessed me. Every time I see it, I am reminded of that and inspired to give to people what they need just like Christ gave to me.
I was driving out of a shopping center of 202 and i guess i accidentally left some to go food on the roof of my car without realizing it. Some homeless guy chased me down with his charity jar in his hand and rescued my food for me. so i grabbed that dollar i had tucked away and gave it to him!
Someone at work asked me for change for a five dollar bill. I only had four ones in my pocket. She said she was just looking for some change to by a soda to help her get through a boring meeting and I remembered I had some change in my desk drawer. When I went to get 4 quarters to add to my four ones I remembered Bill's dollar that I had tucked away in my wallet. I gave her back her five, put the four ones in back in my pocket and just gave her the four quarters to buy the soda. She insisted that I simply give her change for the five, but I insisted she just take the quarters. The cool thing is I still have Bill's dollar to give to someone else!
got some groceries after church and thought of the dollar in my pocket while in line... "oh food bank donations cool...oh wait..milkyway..charity..candy..charity...candyyy...gahh alright charity."
On the way home Sunday evening I felt prompted by the Spirit to use it locally. There was a conversation later that evening where the need at a local school for boy's underwear came up; I purchased a package and gave it to the school. It was more than a dollar - but Bill's dollar was the catalyst that made me sensitive to the need.
This series effected me a lot. It was so convicting yet I feel like I have so much to do to get closer to how God wants me to be, breaking down these masks that hinder true joy and peace. I love Crossroads and love that I can take the journey in a community that is safe, real and willing to journey with me.
Just wanted to say I am sure glad the Lord brought me to worship at Xroads Sunday. I caught up with Eric after but thought others would find it interesting that I had put in a prayer request about a Pakistani brother named JOSEPH Francis, who is the primary attorney defending christian cases in the country. He was arrested on July 12th and many have been praying/fasting for his release and trying to raise $$ for requested bail. Anyone who saw me bawling my eyes out mighta wondered why - because there was I guy I know LIVING the "Joseph story". I met Francis briefly during a trip to Lahore in 2006 and he is surely just as humble and dedicated as the day he took on this call from the Lord. Anyone interested in assisting brothers and sisters like this overseas can look over Jubilee Campaign website or International Christian Concern. Mission Network News also provides accurate info and prayer requests from all over and there are a ton of others.
I will also be hosting prayer at my house for the Muslim World during Ramadan (starts Aug 22nd) using the 30 days prayer guide every Monday evening 7-8pm - at my house. If you would like a FREE copy I can also provide a few of those. Can also see the 30 days website to link up with daily prayer email and detailed info on Islam and outreach methods. I live right around the corner off MD Ave but contact me for directions if interested.
This man's story has already effected my life. I want to learn to be more transparent and allowing people to see my flaws. Following Christ is not about being perfect, it is about worshiping our Creator and our God.
I know i should have said this while I was there last Sunday. I would like to say thank you for taking the time coming out to habitat and also thanks for welcoming me and my family to your church and making us feel at home; we really enjoy ourselves we are already making plans to come back!
